In light of the anti-immigrant forces taking over in Washington, a confident understanding of all areas of immigration law is now more important than ever, especially given what looms as the worst immigration climate since passage of the basic Immigration and Nationality Act in 1952. For the lawyer with some immigration experience but who will need to know more to fully represent clients in the fast-changing environment, our six-week program, Making Sense of Immigration Law, offers a unique opportunity to acquire a stronger knowledge of all major themes of immigration law. During this program we will delve into constitutional issues to grounds of inadmissibility and deportability, crimes and immigration fraud (marriage and otherwise), refugees and asylum seekers, and discretionary relief from removal to acquisition of American citizenship, all with a view toward making sense of immigration law when possible and dealing with it when it doesn’t. This program is like no other due to its informal nature, which consists of 15 participants sitting around a conference table. The setting is ideal for asking questions, knowing the pitfalls to evade, and discussing legal issues in-depth. The course includes a comprehensive outline of the subjects covered, reduced to plain language. The program is conducted by Donald Ungar, now retired, but who brings more than half a century of experience guiding clients through every corner of immigration law. He is known for his novel and imaginative responses to immigration law problems, as well as his knack for simple English in helping to untangle jargon that otherwise gets in the way of a practical understanding of the law.
